Settling In and Visits Prior to Attending
Children will usually have visits prior to commencement at Gumboots. The amount of visits and times are at the parent’s discretion to align with Gumboot’s open door policy. Parents / whanau / caregivers are required to stay with their child during these visits as they experience the centre customs and routines. During these visits, the supervisor will liaise with families to ensure the agreed start date is still suitable for your child.
Teachers and Programming
Teachers are available at all times to discuss your child, however, if you have a particular concern or wish to discuss an issue at length, please arrange a specific time outside centre hours. We highly value reciprocal, open communication between home and centre and this strongly supports quality learning and development for your child.
Our teachers put considerable time and effort in to designing and implementing learning programmes that children enjoy. Experiences for learning are planned to meet the needs of an individual child, supporting their strengths, preferences and interests. The Aotearoa / New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum document, Te Whāriki, informs our programme and has a strong focus on children’s dispositions for learning.
Teachers perform internal evaluation and are constantly seeking ways in which to improve. Wall displays often reflect special events, children's interests and achievements.
Each child has his/ her own Storypark profile and book which records their personal learning journey while at Gumboots. We encourage parents to contribute stories to the profiles especially during holiday periods.
